General Balloon Information

Balloons are delicate things and like to be kept at room temperature, require a soft touch when being handled or added to a car and generally don’t like to be placed under pressure!

As the temperature around a balloon increases so too will the helium within the balloon expand. As the helium gas temperature increases it expands and eventually the balloon will reach it’s limit and will burst. Balloons such as latex have a little give but foils for example will burst quickly when their seams are placed under pressure. Similarly, low temperatures can also effect float life and should be avoided. Please note high altitudes also greatly affect balloons and if you are heading to such a location, we highly recommend letting us know upon booking. Bear in mind also that sharp objects, hot lights, finger nails, children and pets can also easily pop balloons!

We only purchase the highest grade of balloons and helium from a reliable supplier that is non-flammable, colourless, odourless, non toxic and tasteless. We know inhaling helium was fun when we were young but it is strongly discouraged and dangerous.

Collecting your balloons

We recommend collecting balloons as close to your event time as possible! Heading straight to your celebration location is also advised which will assist to maintain a constant temperature and reduce handling! On hot days we recommend cooling your car to room temperature prior to adding your balloons. We suggest not leaving your balloons in a car unattended without air-conditioning. On cool days be careful your car heater isn’t too hot or directly blowing onto your balloons and if travelling with pets be sure they can not reach your balloons as little paw nails will burst them!

We highly recommend making space for your balloons in your car prior to collection. Dependant upon availability and staffing we are always happy to assist you to your car if parked within a close proximity to our shop on Swan St.

If walking your balloons to your location be sure to keep an eye out for rough wall surfaces and trees above. Avoid your balloon bag touching the ground and don’t forget warm direct sunlight may cause your balloons to burst!

Once at your location

Balloons should always be kept out of direct sunlight and away from warm places such as near outdoor heaters and in a warm room with a heater or without air conditioning in Summer. It is always a good idea to keep your balloons out of the breeze/wind and away from rough surfaces such as brick walls as they can easily burst your balloons.

Foil and latex balloons can be kept in their transport bags until they are required unless your latex balloons have been treated with Hi Float. Please see the information below for further instructions in regards to Hi Float. Don’t forget to hold onto your balloon transport bags so you can take your balloons home after your celebration! They also make for fabulous bags to hold party gifts and rubbish.

We also recommend not leave young children alone with balloons as balloon strings and burst balloons can be a choking hazard.

Loose Balloons On The Ceiling

It is always a good idea to test a roof before letting go of all of your loose balloons as not all surfaces are smooth. Simply release one balloon slowly in various locations before your remaining balloons. It is recommended to keep loose balloons away from downlights and fittings. Don’t forget hot air rises and if you have a heater on the temperature on the roof will increase throughout your celebration.

Hi Floated Balloons

Hi Float is a non toxic, biodegradable gel you can opt to be added to solid coloured latex balloons at an additional fee. It extends the float life of your balloons. Please note, however, they will still decrease in size and we recommend picking up on the day when possible. It is important when opting for high float to remove your balloons from the balloon bag within 20-30 minutes of collection to allow the hi float to continue to dry. If travelling a long distance, please be sure to let us know upon booking! It is best to order balloons with hi float gel at least 24 hrs prior to pick up for best float life and ensure we have enough time to prepare them for you. Hi float is designed to work in balloons that are kept indoors in a climate controlled location out of humid conditions.

After your celebration

Dependant on the type of balloons ordered they may last for many hours, days or weeks to come. If travelling, carefully return your balloons to their balloon bags before placing them in the car. We ask that you never release balloons into the atmosphere as this is illegal, can attract large fines and they will eventually land somewhere and pollute our beautiful environment. Balloon waste can be extremely dangerous for our fauna if they land in the sea or on land so we ask that you always pin it and bin it!

Extending Your Foil Balloon Life

One of the many reasons we love foil balloons is that they can be topped up with air using a straw to extend their life! Plump them up when they show signs of deflating to get a little longer life out of your balloon!
